Defense witness of () in the lawsuit of the coup plot, (Republicans) will testify this Friday (30) to (Supreme Federal Court).
The pocket governor will be tested as he has repeated allies who never heard the former president speak of a coup, while and was next to Bolsonaro in some of the most sharp moments of undemocratic attacks on institutions.
Tarcisio has already said he had not identified a coup intent in Bolsonaro attacks on the electronic ballot box, remained silent next to the ally during part of these demonstrations and minimized the former president’s verbal aggressions to the STF.
On the other hand, quoted for next year’s presidential dispute, the governor tries to balance himself between a cordial relationship with court ministers and the pocket base.
By testifying on the morning of Friday, Tarcisio will be placed to the test about:
1) its faithfulness to Bolsonaro, ineligible at least until 2030 and defendant in the process of the coup plot in which it may be sentenced to more than 40 years in prison;
2) the silence he maintained as a Federal Government minister in the face of then -president’s scammers’ statements;
3) distortions that have exposed to defend Bolsonaro in the face of recent STF positions, and (Attorney General’s Office).
This third point draws attention because of the minister before some witnesses in recent testimonials.
This was evident with the, in court and reached the apex when by contempt.
By defending Bolsonaro in the face of Federal Police investigations, Tarcisio has said that “the president respected the outcome of the election”, which never occurred, and that Lula’s possession “happened in full normality and respect for democracy”, which is also another distortion in the face of facts.

Following Bolsonaro’s indictment by the PF last year, the governor that the accusations against the former president integrated “a narrative that lacks evidence.”
As a minister, Tarcisio was a constant presence in the weekly lives transmitted by Bolsonaro. On August 26, 2021, they were together when the then president summoned demonstrations in Brasilia and for September 7, when he attacked the polls and the STF.
Bolsonaro’s goal, he said, was to press for “clean elections” in defense of the printed vote. “We can’t have elections under suspicion. We can’t,” said the former president in the broadcast, with Tarcisio sitting in silence to his right.
“It cannot one or two people, at most, be imposing standards in Brazil, imposing a dictatorship in Brazil. We cannot admit it,” Bolsonaro said in an indirect Moraes.
On September 7, Tarcisio remained with Bolsonaro on the stage in Brasilia and accompanied him to São Paulo, where he recorded the trip as a trip to work. During a speech on Paulista Avenue, Bolsonaro intensified the attacks with the Supreme, preached disobedience to Moraes and called him “scoundrel”.
In May 2022, already in pre-campaign to the São Paulo government, Tarcisio minimized the episode. “In the end, none of this happened. There was a situation of fierceness of spirits and, soon after, a gesture. I consider that this issue of September 7 is surpassed,” he said.
Later, during Sabbath Sheet/UOL, said Bolsonaro’s attacks on the Supreme Court were defensive reactions. “He often defends himself, and then the defense is considered an attack,” he said, adding that “fierceness in democracy are common.”
Now as governor, Tarcisio seeks to soften the relationship between Boconists and STF ministers, especially with Moraes, the group’s main target.
The two have been together in various events and, according to allies, maintain a good relationship. In February 2024, in the inauguration of the new president of TRE-SP, the governor publicly praised the Electoral Justice-the frequent alive of Bolsonaro and his supporters.
“I do not see why this current is in the sights of the Federal Police,” said Tarcisio the week before the meeting with Moraes. The minister is a rapporteur of the action in which the governor was listed as Bolsonaro’s defense witness.
When the former president’s passport was seized, also in February 2024, Tarcisio said for attempted coup. “I can’t see it – and it’s not just my opinion, there are a lot of divided jurists – nothing that brings accountability to him. I think they are creating a lot. Over time, everything will be clarified.”
Already at the end of March this year, at an event with presidents of the Regional Electoral Courts at the headquarters of the TJ-SP (São Paulo Court of Justice), Tarcisio stated that, with the electronic polls, “Brazil has actually become a great reference.” among its Bolsonarist allies.
