Pittu is a 5000 year old game. A player tries to hit a stack of stones that has to be built up again and again. Happy, an Indian migrant in Vienna and the main character of the film of the same name, plays it with his daughter as often as possible. They are small moments of normality before the everyday life of the strict Austrian immigration laws catches up with – and it is a simple metaphor for his daily struggle. “We all, whether privileged or not, try to build up the tower of our lives every day,” says director Sandeep Kumar in a standard conversation. “Then comes some situation and smashes the whole thing. And the next day this game continues.”
