French President Emmanuel Macron said on Friday that the United States is subjected to a “credibility test” in connection with its response to Russia’s announcement with the ceasefire in Ukraine. According to the AFP report, TASR reports this.

Russia has rejected an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine and continues intensive attacks despite diplomatic efforts to end this more than three years of war.

US President’s opinion

US President Donald Trump, who has been trying to end the war since returning to the White House, has expressed dissatisfaction with the head of Kremlin Vladimir Putin in recent days. On Sunday after an extensive Russian air attack on Ukraine, he said that Putin “went crazy” and then said on Tuesday that the Russian president “played with fire”. AFP, however, noted that the White House chief has not yet fulfilled the repeated threats of imposing new sanctions against Moscow.

Macron said during a visit to Singapore that if Russia “confirms that it is not ready to conclude peace”, the US must subsequently confirm its determination to impose sanctions on Moscow. He stressed that this is a “credibility test for Americans”.

Macron’s call for action

“48 hours ago I spoke to President Trump, who showed his impatience. The question is what are we going to do? We (Europeans) are ready,” Macron said.

The French President said on Monday the hope that Trump is already aware that Putin was deceiving him by speaking of his determination to reach peace. According to Macron, it is time to threaten Russia with much more massive sanctions to convince him to end the war in Ukraine.

Macron also commented on the situation in the Gaza Strip, where the food crisis is deepening after Israel has blocked all humanitarian aid to this war -destroyed territory for more than two months. European countries should tighten a common attitude towards Israel if it does not adequately respond to the humanitarian situation in the Palestinian enclave, says the French President.

Humanitarian aid in Gaza

Many countries are currently pushing to Israel to allow unlimited aid to be aid to Gaza, and according to Macron, it is necessary to act “within the next hours and days”. He also stated that the recognition of the Palestinian state under certain conditions is “not only a moral duty but also a political necessity”.
