Moraes received a warning from the US after blocking social network, says Jornal

Supreme Court Minister Alexandre de Moraes received a letter from the United States Department of Justice after he ordered the blockade of accounts on American social networks, says The New York Times.

According to the report, the document stated that the magistrate could reinforce Brazilian laws in the virtual environment, but could not order American companies to take specific actions in the US. The minister’s office chose not to comment on the report, according to the publication.

The letter would have been a response to Moraes’s decision, given in February this year, to suspend the Rumble Platform, popular among the right influencers, with the representative’s indication order. Last year, social network X was suspended in the country for about 40 days, also after the minister’s decision.

Alexandre de Moraes is the target of a lawsuit filed by the companies Trump Media & Technology Group, led by US President Donald Trump, and the Rumble platform on charges of breaking the first amendment of the American Constitution, which defends freedom of expression

Visa restriction

The New York Times report is published amid the Trump government’s decision to suspend visas to foreign authorities accused of censoring US citizens. United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio quoted Latin America, but did not list who will be affected.

However, after the announcement, Jason Miller, a Trump consultant, marked Moraes on social network X, implying that he would be hit by measures. “Share this with someone who immediately comes to mind when you read it. Okay, I’ll start… Hello @alexandre!” He wrote.

This Thursday (29/5), the government of Donald Trump made a post in Portuguese, stating: “Let it be clear: no enemy of the freedom of expression of Americans will be forgiven.”
