(Life Beyond Work) has decided to join the group of social movements and central trade unions that will promote between July and September on the reduction of working hours and in Brazil.
“The plebiscite guidelines are extremely important and directly affect the working class. […] We come in because we know that the change we want for the country will not only come from the streets, it also needs to translate into organized social and political force, “the group says in a statement.
Founded by Rick Azevedo, current councilor by PSOL in Rio de Janeiro, the movement gained projection on social networks from 2023, sharing videos that criticized exhausting journeys. They say they will participate promoting debates, popular committees and political formation about the importance of the consultation.
They also sent a delegation to participate in the plebiscite multipliers training course, which takes place this Thursday (29) until Sunday (1st) in Praia Grande (SP), in the CUT Synergy Holiday Colony (Single Workers’ Single Center).
Also participating in the union central coordination such as UGT and Força Sindical, leftist parties such as PT and PSOL and social movements such as, and unites, besides the Brazilians popular and people without fear.
“The popular plebiscite is consolidated as the main initiative of popular movements this year,” says Igor Felippe Santos, a member of the organization, about the adhesion of the Life Movement beyond work.
The vote will have two questions, with the formulations: “Are you in favor of reducing the workday without salary reduction and the end of the 6×1 scale?” and “You are in favor that those who earn more than $ 50,000 monthly pay more tax so that those who receive up to $ 5,000 monthly do not pay income tax?”.
The exemption project is one of the Lula Government (PT) legislative priorities this year. Last week, part of these entities, the General Secretariat of the Presidency, the Planalto Palace, and in the referendum.
Bank vote will take place from July 1 to September 7, in unions, churches and headquarters of associations and movements across the country.
There is no forecast of attendance. In 2002, a popular consultation against it attracted 10 million people. In 2014, another in defense of a Constituent Assembly had 5 million voters.
