Nigeria: In 117 dead by floods

At least 117 people were killed in the central part of the country, after severe floods destroyed houses, an emergency management official said after detecting more corpses.

Curple rainfall in the Mokaa area, in the western part of Nigeria, caused extensives that seduced houses with the families living in them.

In the past few days, the Nigerian Meteorological Service (Nimet) had warned of the risk of heavy rainfall in 15 of the country’s 36 states. Flooding phenomena are often in Nigeria during the rainy season, from May to September.

In 2024 more than 1,200 people died and 1.2 million inhabitants were forced to leave their homes due to floods in Nigeria, the worst in the country for decades.
