Banksy’s new work of art, revealed by himself, is in Marseille, France.
“I want to be what you saw in me.” Banksy is changing tone?
Half a year of silence later, the mysterious Banksy He turned to his Thursday to show the world his latest work of art, which transforms the shadow of a street pole into the image of a lighthouse, without revealing the location or any additional detail about his new work.
“I want to be what you saw in me,” he reads, accompanying the lighthouse design, which in the meantime has already been accurately located: it is in the Le Panier neighborhood, in Marsela zone rich in graffiti that already had works by other well -known street artists such as invader, famous for their pixelized drawings, or Yaze (Marco The Polo), confirms.
But what does Banksy mean by this innovative work, which seems to escape the usual political comments and approach more personal introspection?
In fact, this is the first time that the artist whose identity has been a mystery for over 25 years has been using the first person on a public mural.
It is already speculated that the emotional quote on the mural is a reference to the lyrics of “Softly”, song of the American country band Lonesar, in which the following words are heard:
You are like God in this world
Fragile, beautiful
There is so much confidence in your eyes
They remind me of blue skies and the sun
I want to be what you see in me
I want to love you the way you love
After the Gross Domestic Product Account, which is dedicated to Banksy’s work, sharing images of the mural with the caption “RIP” (acronym for rest in peace, or, in Portuguese, resting in peace), another theory emerged.
Some speculate that the mural may be a tribute to another artist, Lonely Farmer, Near and allegedly friendly collaborator of Banksy, who recently died.
After a series of works around the animal theme – one putting all his weight on a silver Nissan Micra, elephants with intertwined trumples, swinging on a bridge, one at a zoo door or a “falling” of a cliff – Banksy now surprises the places with something different in southern France.
A local resident was by chance to have lunch nearby, in a place where he “never goes,” he tells. “Banksy in Marseille? I thought, ‘I won’t find her [a nova obra de arte ] In Les Catalans. By chance she was there. We love it! ”He says.
