Russia is prepared to consider a ceasefire in Ukraine to make the way for a lasting solution to the conflict, said the Russian ambassador on the UN on Friday (30).
However, Vassily Nebenzia warned the Security Council that a simple ceasefire will not be enough to end the war.
In addition, he pointed out that during any respite, Moscow wants Western countries to stop arming Ukraine and that the neighboring country stops mobilizing troops.
“To achieve a sustainable and lasting solution to the Ukrainian crisis, we need to approach its deep causes,” said Nebenzia.
“What we are proposing is a second round of … where we can exchange memos about the approaches of both parties regarding the negotiation process,” he added.
The United States want Russia to agree with a comprehensive 30-day ceasefire with the break of attacks on land, air and sea.

In turn, an American diplomat told the Security Council on Friday: “We share the express concern by other members of this Council that Russia may not be interested in peace and instead committed to achieving a military victory.”
Vladimir Putin’s government initially highlighted that his mission was to “disarm” Ukraine so that it did not represent a threat to Russia and “disadvantage it,” eliminating leaders that characterized as nationalists.
Western countries believe that Russia’s true goals were to defeat the Ukrainian Armed Forces and overthrow the government of Volodymyr Zelensky, who is pro-chief.
“We will continue to fight as long as it is necessary – without threats to our borders, without anti -russian or neo -Nazi education in neighboring countries. We will not allow any of this to happen,” Nebenzia concluded.
