Senate establishes group for cooperation with European Union

Formalized initiative with resolution aims to develop relationships between the Brazilian Parliament and the European Block through exchanges

The Federal Senate instituted the Brazil-UE (European Union) parliamentary group as a parliamentary cooperation service between Brazil and the European bloc. The initiative was formalized on Friday (30.MAI.2025) through Resolution No. 7 of 2025, promulgated by the president of the Senate, David Alcolumbre, and published in the DOU (Official Gazette). The creation of the group has as its main objective to strengthen and develop the relations between the Brazilian Federal Senate and the Block, especially in issues involving the parliamentary scope and the popular representation between the two entities.

The headquarters of the activities will be the Federal Senate itself, in Brasilia, where will take place the meetings and other activities of the group. The actions may extend to other places, depending on the nature of the programmed events.

According to Article 3 of the Resolution, parliamentary cooperation will take place through different types of exchange. These include parliamentary visits, congresses, seminars, symposiums, debates and conferences. The document also proposes studies and meetings of a political, legal, social, technological, scientific, environmental, cultural, educational, economic and financial nature.

The group’s operation will be governed by its own domestic regulation or, in the absence of it, by decision of the absolute majority of its founding members. The resolution determines that, in cases of omission, the provisions of the Internal Regulations of the Federal Senate and the Common Regulations of the National Congress, in that order.

Brazil-UE Forum

On Thursday (29.MAI), the 1st Brazil-UE Investment Forum of APEX Brazil gathered authorities and entrepreneurs from both regions to discuss business and cooperation opportunities. During the opening session, António Costa (President of the European Council), Jorge Viana (President of APEX Brazil) and Marian Schuegraf (Ambassador of the European Union in Brazil), spoke.
