SAO PAULO, SP (FOLHAPRESS)-A South Korean Army Maritime Patrol plane near a Military Base in the city of Pohang shortly after taking off for training on Thursday (29). All four people on board died, local authorities said.

The P-3 aircraft left the aviation field at 1:43 pm local (Thursday dawn in Brazil) and fell about six minutes later in a mountainous area near the city of Pohang, in the southeast of the country. The remains of the crew were recovered and there were no reports of civilian victims, the Navy said.

Videos of witnesses broadcast by Korean broadcaster YTN show the plane tilting at low altitude and a smoke column after the crash. Firefighters mobilized about 40 people to serve the incident, the Yonhap news agency said.

After the accident, the operation of P-3 aircraft was suspended and an investigation was opened. South Korea suffered its worst air disaster in December, when a Jet 737-800 commercial jet from Jeju Air made an emergency landing and exploded after colliding with a concrete barrier.
