American singer and songwriter Taylor Swift announced on Friday (30) that she was able to buy back the rights of her first six albums. The amount was not disclosed.
She had lost control over these recordings in 2019, when her first label, Big Machine, sold the rights to music entrepreneur Scooter Braun for $ 300 million, according to the Vanity Fair.
In 2020, Braun resold the catalog for Shamrock Capital, an Los Angeles -based investment company in the United States, which specializes in media and entertainment assets.
Having lost control of the original songs, the singer re -recorded some of the albums in recent years, in a venture known as “Taylor’s Version”.

Copyright debate
The Battle of Taylor rekindles an old debate on the rights of artists about their own works. She was not the only one to face this problem. In the 1990s, for example, singer Prince fought a dispute with his record label for the property of his recordings and even moved his name to a symbol as a form of protest.
In the letter published today, Taylor said he is excited about the conversations this saga rekindled in my music industry.
