From a few scenes in a movie or series it may look like a cool. A few weeks or months of “work” and then peace? Unfortunately, this does not go with the treatment of addiction. “The tastes come even after years and it is necessary to count on it,” says the IReceptář in the ear, an addictologist.
You can play the whole episode of the treatment of addictions here:
One thing is the treatment itself, the legendary quit. It may take weeks or months or years. It is intense, whether it is outpatient or in a device. “It is said that when you have worked your way to addict for ten years, you should also count on ten years of treatment. But it can be much more,” describes psychotherapist and addictologist Marta Tara Šturm. “And in my opinion, the most important thing is the after -treatment phase, because it should maintain some vigilance and humility towards addiction. Even how much you cost you to get out of it.”
Strengthen your durability
The need to return to risky behavior will never be completely erased. Gradually weaken, dampened, but there are situations where it can emerge again, even very strongly. For example, when a former smoker wants to ignite after a few years. “It is essential to set a clear plan after treatment. Steps, what and how. To have crisis plans for situations that I normally experience and have led me to what I no longer want to do,” says the addictologist. “To know what’s going on to stop in time.”
American inspiration
Self -help group. It sounds mysterious, but probably everyone knows. For example, this are anonymous alcoholics (but also drug addicts or addicted sex). They also meet in Czech cities. Just look a little. “Dependents seek experience in their helpful groups, belonging, the feeling that no one condemns or evaluates them,” explains the addictologist. According to her, they have a place in afterwards. Support for other people with the same experience is a great help for addicts and can partially replace the help of a professional.
In addition, self -help groups often offer another aid for life without dependence. So -called divisions. These are legendary tokens for a month or a year without alcohol, but it may well be unchecking in the calendar or just knowing that just today it is five years since I last succumbed to compulsive behavior. “The addiction brings a big burden into life, and this is an opportunity for gratitude, for aware of where I have gone,” explains the expert.
Can we talk?
Because the treatment of addiction is really for life and according to an addictologist it is good to have a guide in it. Meetings are more intense after treatment and gradually extend. But they still know where they can come. “I have clients I know after twenty -five years how they should,” says a psychotherapist. “It is also important that they can realize that something is happening in their lives, that it could be a potentially problem and that it is good to ask for help.” Maybe only during one session. As a result, they can prevent a situation where a small problem will turn into a great addiction again.
