Mayor of Recife takes over the presidency of the Brazilian Socialist Party on Sunday (1st.Jun), at 31
The Mayor of Recife (PE), (PSB), said this Saturday (31.mai.2025) “A mix of gratitude, emotion and a sense of responsibility” in becoming president of the Brazilian Socialist Party. He will be made official in the role on Sunday (1.Jun), during the last day of the National Congress of the acronym.
“The PSB will be a platform to represent this desire for reconstruction of a better Brazil, representativeness in increasingly democratic and affordable politics, and we are ready to do this homework along with our directories Brazil.”declared Campos, 31, to Poder360.
The mayor said he assumes the caption in a moment of “Old and new challenges to be faced in Brazil”. Stated that a strong country “Passes through strong and recognized institutions”including political parties, which “They need to do revisions and self -criticism and have the ability to renew themselves over time”.
According to Campos, his desire as a leader is to strengthen the party institution and make the PSB “The party that represents a desire for change and welcome of the people at this challenging moment of the country”.
His priority, he said, will be to consolidate a party with popular identity and electoral force: “It’s a party that has coherence, but that has strength in the ballot box. After all, you need to have such a good game of politics”.
For this, the focus in 2026, according to Campos, will be to elect more federal deputies and governors in states where party candidacies are viable.
João is the son of (1965-2014) and great-grandson of (1916-2005), both former Pernambuco governors. Both the father and the mayor’s great -grandfather chaired the PSB for about 10 years each: Arraes from 1993 to 2005, and Eduardo, from 2005 to 2014. Both died in charge of the acronym.
The mayor of Recife will receive the post of Carlos Siqueira, who leads the caption since Eduardo’s death during the 2014 presidential campaign.
