The European Commission said on Saturday (31) that “deeply” regrets the increase in US tariffs on steel imports.
US President Donald Trump said on Friday that he plans to increase steel and aluminum rates imported from 25% to 50%, putting more pressure on global steel producers and deepening their trade war.
“We deeply regret the announced increase in US tariffs on steel imports from 25% to 50%,” a European Commission spokesman said in an email statement.
“This decision adds even more uncertainty to the global economy and increases costs for consumers and companies on both sides of the Atlantic,” said the spokesman, adding that “increased tariffs also impairs continuous efforts to reach a negotiated solution.”
