In a book he is launching, Ricardo Cappelli, appointed by the federal presidential president in public security during the attacks, reports tensions with military commanders lived that day.

In the work “The January 8 that Brazil has not seen”, which is about 200 pages and will be launched by the Publisher Royal History, the politician formed in journalism tells, for example, the moment when the troops of, then under his command, and the army police were face to face.

He writes that his task was to withdraw and arrest the 1,200 protesters who were still on the ministries’ terrace that night and dismantle the camp in front of the Army HQ, “in a boundless tension from beginning to end,” he says.

During the action, Cappelli reports discussions and discomfort, for example, with General Julio César de Arruda, former army commander; General Gustavo Henrique Dutra, then head of the Planalto Military Command; and Colonel Jorge Eduardo Naime, from the PMDF Department of Operations.

“Would you come here with troops without my permission?” He said General Arruda in one of the most critical moments. Throughout the book, he repeats criticism of what he considers a lack of willingness of the military and the governor of the Federal District, Ibaneis Rocha (MDB), to end the scammer demonstrations.

It also tells how it was to stop in the intervening chair. The then-camped Justice Minister Flávio Dino, today at the Supreme Court, spoke to Lula on the phone when he looked at the window and saw Cappelli give orders to the National Force to avoid an invasion of the building. “It’s him,” he would have said.

Cappelli had just been sworn in executive secretary of the portfolio, as a trusted man of Dino, who was also secretary in Maranhão.

Since leaving office, in January 2024, he chairs the Brazilian Agency for Industrial Development (ABDI) and presents himself as a pre-candidate for the DF government next year.
