The chairman of the Corinthians Deliberative Council, Romeu Tuma Júnior, announced on Friday (30) the date of the Assembly of the partners that will define the future of Augusto Melo. The impeachment vote of the club president will be on August 9 in Parque São Jorge.
The conditions to participate in the vote are the same as the presidential election: to have more than five years of association, to be the holder of the plan and to be up to date.
If the partners ratify the decision of the Deliberative Council to dismiss the leader, a new presidential election will happen to define the agent by the end of 2026. However, only the club counselors can participate this time.
If the partners vote against the departure, Melo will be reappointed to office. Until the date of the assembly, the alvinegro team will be chaired by Osmar Stabile, who took over the post shortly after the removal of the top hat.
The request for impeachment of the agent is based on accusations of alleged irregular in the sponsorship contract with the Betting House Vaidebet.
Four days before voting on the board, Melo was indicted by the Civil Police on suspicion of criminal association, qualified theft and money laundering. The object of the investigation is precisely the agreement with the betting house and the destination of the committee’s money paid to an alleged intermediate, which led the police to offer a complaint to the MP-SP (São Paulo Public Prosecutor).
Also this Friday, before the announcement of the date of the Assembly of the Partners, the Club Ethics Council officialized the removal of Tuma from the presidency of the Deliberative Council.
The decision was informed by the agency almost two months after the vote that defined the preliminary removal on 9 April. During this period, he continued to dispatch normally, as he did at the meeting that dismissed Augusto Melo.
Without informing the reason for the temporal lapse, the letter sent to the Secretariat of the Deliberative Council, signed by Mario Mello, advisor and rapporteur of the case, only asks the decision to be fulfilled.
Augusto Melo, still in the presidency, and counselor Roberto Willian Miguel, known as Lebanese, made several accusations against Tuma, including partiality in conducting the vote on the removal of Melo.
There were three votes against one for the removal of Romeu Tuma Jr. voted in favor of rapporteur Mário Mello Junior and counselors Ronaldo Fernandez Tomé and Paulo Juricic, while Rodrigo Vicente Bittar voted against. Roberon de Medeiros, known as Dunga, abstained, as the club’s statute predicts that he assumes the position.
The decision is injunction and the case will still be tried by the Ethics Commission. Tuma may defend himself at a hearing, and the final opinion will need to be ratified by the Corinthians Deliberative Council plenary.
