After two days of trial, the 54 -year -old merchant was sentenced to 98 years in prison closed by the murder of actor Rafael Miguel and his parents, João Alcisio Miguel and Miriam Selma Miguel. The crime occurred in June 2019, in the south of São Paulo. The sentence was announced this Friday (30), at the Criminal Forum of Barra Funda, in the West Zone of the state capital. The, formed by four men and three women, considered Cupertino guilty of triple qualified homicide. According to the Public Prosecution Service, he acted premeditated, motivated by the fact that he did not accept his daughter, Isabela Tibcherani, with Rafael Miguel, known for her performance in the soap opera. The crime occurred at the door of the house where the daughter lived, and the victims were killed with 12 shots – seven hit Rafael, three father and two the mother.
According to the case file, Rafael and parents accompanied Isabela to her house, with the aim of talking to Cupertino about the couple’s relationship. Upon arriving, they were surprised by the man, who would have been exalted and fired at the three. Everyone died on the spot. Isabela told the court that her father was violent, controlled her life and had physically assaulted her and her mother on several occasions. During the trial, she asked to testify without the presence of her father and classified Cupertino as macho, authoritarian and aggressive. The mother, Vanessa Tibcherani, also gave testimony and said she was the victim of various aggressions during the marriage. She stated that Cupertino murdered the actor and her parents “cold”.
After the crime, Paulo Cupertino was on the run for almost three years, using disguises and fake identities. It was located and arrested in May 2022, hidden in a hotel in the neighborhood of Interlagos, near the place where the crime was committed. During the trial, prosecutor Thiago Marin stated that Cupertino was motivated by “hatred” and that his attitude was “coward”. Already Rogério Zagallo, a promoter who accompanies Marin, pointed out that there was no murder, because nothing was stolen, and pointed out that the defendant had possession of the gun of the same caliber used in the crime. Prosecutors also pointed out that Cupertino used their own car to escape without any help to the victims.
The defense, led by lawyer Mirian Nunes Souza, maintained that there was no material evidence to condemn the defendant and said there was no body examination of immediate offense.
