Councilman Rubinho Nunes (Union) had his mandate revoked and was declared ineligible for eight years by the Electoral Justice on Friday, 30, after sharing, during the campaign to the city hall in 2024, a false medical report published by influencer Pablo Marçal (PRTB), who attributed to Deputy Guilherme Boulos (PSOL-SP) an alleged treatment for drug use.

The content was released on Rubinho’s Instagram on the eve of the first round of the elections. The report, later proven as false through expertise, mentioned a psychotic outbreak and positive result for cocaine.

Sought by Estadão this Saturday, 31, to comment on the decision, Rubinho did not return.

The episode that led to the revocation of the mandate showed the approach between Rubinho and Marçal during the 2024 election. Although initially supported the reelection of Mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB), the councilman broke with the campaign in August last year and began to act in an aligned way to the influencer, who disputed the City Hall through the PRTB.

Elected councilor for the first time in 2020, with just over 33,000 votes, Rubinho gained national projection as one of the leaders of the Brazil Livre Movement (MBL), acting as a lawyer and with constant presence on social networks. In 2024, he was reelected with more than 101,000 votes and was no longer just a name of the House Low Clergy to be considered behind the scenes as a possible president of the house.

The break with Nunes, however, frustrated his plans. At the time, when questioned by Estadão about the possibility of Rubinho presiding over the São Paulo legislature, the mayor was straightforward: he said that the position demanded someone with “character”.

With the out -of -reach presidency, Rubinho took over the House’s Corregedoria and began to star in controversies linked to the customs agenda. A member of the conservative wing, who today is majority in the house, presented a bill to prohibit the participation of children and adolescents in events that “allude or foster LGBTQIA+” practices, even with the presence of parents or guardians.

It also proposed the prohibition of neutral language in municipal schools – a measure similar to the one that was considered unconstitutional by the Federal Supreme Court (STF) last year in Votorantim (SP) – and tried to block medical procedures related to gender transition in children under 18 in the municipal health network.

Also in the first term, Rubinho had already generated controversy by proposing a Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) against Father Júlio Lancellotti and presenting a project that provided for a fine of R $ 17,000 to those who distribute lunchboxes to homeless people without permission from City Hall. After the negative repercussion, the proposal was suspended.

Lawyer for training, with a postgraduate degree in Labor Law and specializations in legal institutions, Rubinho has consolidated himself as one of the main names of the new right of São Paulo.

Prior to formally entered into politics, he gained visibility by presenting, in 2016, a request for impeachment against the then Supreme Court Minister Marco Aurélio Mello, after a decision authorizing the release of convicts in the second instance. In 2018, he was prominent again by obtaining in court the suspension of benefits granted at the time to former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
