Augusto Melo announced that he is back in charge of Corinthians, less than a week after being removed from the presidency for impeachment. Melo’s renewal of Melo is the agenda after a change in command of the club’s deliberative council.

Why can Augusto Melo become president of Corinthians again?
On Saturday (31), Councilor Maria Angela de Souza Ocampos assumed the presidency of the Deliberative Council, because of a decision of the Ethics Commission of April 9, which determined the removal of Romeu Tuma Júnior, then president of the CD.
According to the counselor, she came to office for being next in the line of succession, as the deputy, Roberson de Medeiros, is removed for health reasons.
Although the decision was made earlier last month, it was only formally communicated on Friday (30), through a letter signed by Counselor Mário Mello.
Maria Angela, who is aligned with Augusto Melo, has invalid all decisions made by Tuma Júnior declared since April 9, including the impeachment vote.
She also determined that Melo immediately resume the position, based on the orientation of the Ethics Committee, which argues that the process can only be completed after the police inquiry and a new board meeting.
– I determine, in the full exercise of my duties of Chairman of the Deliberative Council: 1) The suspension of the effects of all acts irregularly committed by the President of the Deliberative Council, Mr. Romeu Tuma Júnior, since April 9, 2025, the date on which it was determined and became notorious to remove the exercises from his duties, decreeing the nullity including the decision made by the deliberative board, May 26, 2025, Regarding the removal of the position of the President of the Board of Executive Officers, ”said Maria Angela.

In response, Tuma called the situation “fifth category scam.”

Tension in Parque São Jorge
Augusto Melo and Supporters attended São Jorge Park this Saturday (31) so that he resumes the position of president of Corinthians. The tension at the site increased when Osmar Stabile, interim president, was informed of the decision.
Stabile threatened to call police to contain Melo’s attempt to resume the presidency.

What happened in the Corinthians Deliberative Council?
Romeu Tuma Junior said he was not officially notified of having to leave the Deliberative Council. He claimed that the minutes that formalize his departure is not signed by the head of the board, Roberson de Medeiros.
In addition, Tuma published a note rebutting the actions of Augusto Melo and allies.
– First: I was not notified. Second: I do not recognize my departure. By the documents published by the press, I saw that the minutes do not have the signature of the president, Roberson de Medeiros. Third: The decision has to be from the board, not the rapporteur. In this sense, who has to notify me is the chairman of the ethics committee, not the rapporteur of the case. Fourth and most importantly: I asked the board secretary to access ethics committee processes, and the lawsuits are not in the club. They disappeared! – said Tuma Junior, in a note.

The removal of Tuma, decided by the Ethics Commission, was motivated by alleged bias in the management of the Deliberative Council. In addition, he would have issued public statements that staining the image of Corinthians.
The ethics committee, made up of four counselors, approved the removal by majority, with three favorable votes and one contrary.
