The economic team gained a ten-day breath last Thursday (29), by the National Congress, to study alternatives to increasing the rate the Tax on Financial Operations (IOF) About a series of transactions. However, the opposition follows in the offensive against discharge, and some claim only to accept the total overthrow of the presidential decree.

The opposition leader in the House of Representatives, Luciano Zucco (PL-RS), was one of the first to present a project to stop the government’s decision.
“We understand that the government does not talk to the Central Bank. We are talking about a confiscation, wanting a resource based on tax increase. It is inadmissible what is happening,” said Zucco. “I look forward to wearing this project as soon as possible.”
Not all of the opposition welcomed the posture of the mayor, Hugo Motta (Republicans-PB), and the president of the Senate, David Alcolumbre (União Brasil-AP), to grant this period of 10 days to the government for the presentation of “structuring measures” for public accounts. During this period, the project to overthrow the increase in the IOF will not be voted. Then, depending on the return of the government, it can be based.
Opposition deputies wanted the project for the overthrow had been voted last Thursday (29) or enter the agenda of next week-although Congress will have the activities harmed due to an event related to BRICS.
Within the PL, there are also those who do not see many possible alternatives this year to the government to circumvent the discharge of IOF. A signal in this regard was given by the economic team itself after meeting with the congressional summit, due to constitutional limitations of annuality and noventy.
Hugo even told the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, that the environment in Congress is by the overthrow.
“It would surely have been approved here and in the Senate, but we didn’t do it because we want to build the solution with the government. […] We have an environment in which two years and five months ago all measures that arrived aimed at increasing the collection and did not arrive measures reviewing expenses. This is what Congress and society have been charged and this was said to the minister, ”said Hugo Motta.
Despite the warning, Haddad left the meeting with the Congress summit saying that the government does not consider revoking the increase in IOF. The assessment of the economic team is that if they give up the discharge of IOF, the operation of the public machine would be at an even more delicate level, with more contingencies.
