Accident, which happened Saturday night in the Briannsk region, also caused dozens of injuries
At least seven people died following the collapse of a bridge over a railway line in southwest Russia, which caused the derailment of a train near the Ukraine border, the Russian authorities announced.
The accident, which occurred on Saturday night in the Briansk region, caused at least thirty injured.
“The collapse of a bridge over a railway caused seven dead. Thirty victims, including two children, were transported to medical centers in the Briansk region. Two of the injured victims, including a child, are in serious condition,” wrote regional governor Alexandre Bogomaz on the Telegram messaging platform.
The crash of the train that connected Klimov, in the Belgorod region (Southwest), Moscow, took place at 10:44 pm (20:44 in Lisbon) in Pilchino-Vygonitchchi, the Moscow’s railway company said.
The drop in the bridge was due to “illegal interference in the transportation operation”, the company continued, adding that the circulation of other trains was not disturbed.
The Russian regions of Belgorod and Briansk border Ukraine, and the disaster site is about one hundred kilometers from the neighboring country, which Russia invaded in February 2022.
