According to the survey, the movement in the month was insufficient to change the general framework of pessimism of entrepreneurs
Survey released by CNI () on Wednesday (28.MAI.2025) shows that, in May, the sectoral results of the one point that trust rose in 21 of the 29 industry segments and fell in 8 other sectors.
With the result, 3 sectors went from lack of confidence to confidence. They are:
- Printing and reproduction (+5.8 points, to 52.6 points);
- Various products (+2.5 points, to 51.6 points); and
- Machines and Electrical Materials (+0.7 point, to 50.2 points).
Another 3 segments made the transition opposite and now present pessimism:
- Biofuels (-2.5 points, to 49.8 points);
- Shoes and their parts (-3.3 points, to 48.9 points);
- and motor vehicles (-3.9 points to 47.9 points).
Remember that Icei goes from 0 to 100 points. Values below 50 points indicate the lack of confidence of entrepreneurs and, above, confidence.
With this, the final balance repeats the April result: 23 of 29 sectors remain without confidence, while 6 are confident.
For this edition, CNI consulted 1,800 companies: 771 small; 648 medium size; and 441 large, between May 5 and 14, 2025.
According to Claudia Perdigão, CNI policies and industry expert, lack of confidence harms the sector and economic activity.
“The entrepreneur’s trust is linked to his ability to invest and develop new projects. When the entrepreneur shows uncertainty, he invests less and performs fewer initiatives. A red light comes on when we observe lack of confidence,” he says, ” stated.
Size of company
Icei has increased among all business sizes at. The highlight is the small industries, whose index rose 2 points. In medium -sized industries, the indicator increased by 0.4 point, while in the large, it grew 0.5 point.
With the discharge, large industries have migrated from lack of confidence to confidence, albeit moderate. Small and medium industries continue below 50 points, demonstrating pessimism.
Geographical region
Industry confidence rose in the Southeast (+1.8 point), South (+1 point) and Midwest (+0.7 point), but fell in the Northeast (-0.6 point) and North (-0.3 point). The movement was insufficient to change the general scenario from April to May.
Southern and Southeast entrepreneurs remain pessimistic. Industrialists in the North, Northeast and Midwest are optimistic.
- Northeast: 51.7 points;
- North: 51.3 points;
- Midwest: 50.9 points;
- South: 48.2 points;
- Southeast: 47.7 points.
