Europe looks in amazement the plan of Spain to clean beaches that involves wet wipes

The Italian newspaper has extolled one of the Spanish measures to keep the beaches clean in one of its items, which title under the name “Wet wipe manufacturers must clean the sewers: the proposal of Spain.”

In it, the newspaper highlights the bill advanced by the Government of Spain, which says that those manufacturers of these products – including those made with natural fabrics – will be responsible for paying the remediation costs of their products, as well as the cleaning of the health infrastructure and the subsequent transport and treatment.

As reported by the Ministry of Ecological Transition of Spain, these restrictions, which in addition to affecting wet wipes, will also do so to disposable balloons, aim to reduce marine waste. In this way, with the introduction of this directive, regulation extends to the wipes made of natural fabrics (normally marketed as biodegradable).

On the contrary, they are not within the bill Wet wipes aimed at industrial and professional use and those for medical or hygienic uses. Regarding disposable balloons, the Administration considers that they also entail a “considerable environmental impact”, since they are usually among the waste of the sea, causing damage to fauna.

It should be noted that when the wipes are thrown through the toilet (including the natives) do not disintegrate, which in addition to creating jams and risks of overflows, also “They significantly affect the functioning of sanitation and purification networks.”

Therefore, the producers will be responsible for the collection of the waste of their products and any other spill and must cover the costs of the awareness measure.
