The fire began in a geriatric wing room of Marienkrankenhaus Hospital and quickly spread to the first floor of the building.
A fire in a Hamburg hospital in northern Germany caused the deaths of three people and injuries on 34 on Saturday night, according to a provisional balance of local firefighters.
The fire began around midnight in a room of the geriatric wing of Marienkrankenhaus Hospital in the Hansático, and quickly spread to the first floor through the outer facade, Firefighter spokesman Lorenz Hartmann said.
“Several elderly people and people with reduced mobility had to be removed by the corridors,” he added.
According to the spokesman, “firefighters quickly controlled the fire and prevented the flames from spreading to other rooms of patients.”
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
