The new Specialized Reference Center for homeless population (Pop Center) was installed in the Castelo Branco neighborhood, in the Sobral Regional, in Rio Branco since last week. The space, which previously operated in the central region of the Acrean capital, has been the target of controversies and protests by residents who do not agree with their presence in the region.

To show some of the work developed, Contilnet visited the site, which works with a multidisciplinary team offering various services, from social assistance, to active search to classes in teaching youth and adults (EJA).
The unit’s coordinator, Gabriel Ferreira, explained how the service in the new space works.

“The new pop center works in a bookstore, a referral office base. The person arrives here, goes through the reception, the receptionist will identify your demand and will forward you to screening, and there will be verified your demand,” he said.
In addition to educational support, the Center also guides people in vulnerable situations to access social benefits.

“We also make available the Single Registry, which is a database of the federal government, and through this, it requests some eventual benefit. Here we make available, if possible, social rent, which is given by the Secretariat of Social Assistance and Human Rights (SASDH). We also have the legal point, where we see the legal needs of the individual,” said Ferreira.
