Anvisa prohibits 3 brands of “coffee fake” for contamination

Melissa, Pingo Preto and Official products contained ocratoxin A, a substance that offers consumer health risks

A (National Health Surveillance Agency) determined this Monday (2.JUN.2025) the prohibition of production and marketing of Melissa, Pingo Preto and Official brands, drinks “coffee taste“.

The decision was made after ocratoxin detection in products, a substance that offers consumer health risks.

ANVISA’s resolution prevents the commercialization, distribution, manufacture, advertising and use of all lots of these beverages known as “café fake” throughout the national territory. The measure was based on laboratory analysis carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock.

The ministry had already declared these inappropriate products for consumption on May 25, when it identified the irregularities in the drinks. Laboratory tests revealed the presence of foreign materials and impurities above the limit allowed by Brazilian law.

According to Brazilian law, strange articles include stones, sand and seeds of other plant species, such as weeds. Impurities, in turn, encompass branches, leaves and peels. The packaging also falsely indicated the presence of “Coffee Pulp” e “Ground roasted coffee“.

ANVISA did not disclose information about possible additional penalties for companies responsible for manufacturing these products beyond the ban on marketing. The manufacturing companies had not been spoken until the publication of this text. The space remains open to manifestations.
