Nationalist Karol Nawrockki victory presents a complicated challenge

Poland prime minister announced Monday the intention to advance to a motion of trust in Parliament after the candidate supported by his party, Rafal Trzaskowski, lost Sunday’s presidential elections.

Donald Tusk made this decision following the victory of populist and nationalist Karol Nawrock, who represented the opposition party, law and justice.

A result that the centrist government did not expect and that puts a challenge to a logic of a pro-European Poland. This is because the president -elect is a confessed admirer of Donald Trump and a potential Euroetic.

According to the National Poland Elections Commission, Karol Nawrock won the elections with 50.89% of the votes, marking an electoral turnaround on a night when the other candidacy came to celebrate a clear victory that did not happen.

This is because liberal Rafal Trzaskowski, who is Mayor of Warsaw, did not go beyond 49.11%.

The candidate supported by the Civic Coalition and Donald Tusk eventually granted the defeat and congratulate the other candidate.
