Former Vice-President of the Fed and former director of the Israeli bank was attended in response to the 1990s global financial crises
Economist Stanley Fischer died on Saturday (31.MAI.2025) at the age of 81. He occupied at the US Fed (Federal Reserve) and the Israeli bank, which announced death. The causes were not informed.
The economist served as Vice-President of the Fed and 1st Deputy Director of the IMF (International Monetary Fund), where he worked in response to the late 1990s Asian and Russian seizures. He directed the Bank of Israel from 2005 to 2013.
Fischer was born in 1943 in North Rodésia, present -day Zambia, during the British colonial period.
He studied economics at the London School of Economics and built an academic career at MIT.
In 1988, Fischer joined the World Bank. In 1994, he assumed the position of 2nd most important IMF officer, working under Michel Campdessus. His period at the institution coincided with the turmoil of the crises of emerging markets of the 1990s. He was vice president of Citigroup from 2002 to 2005 and director of Bank Hapoalim in 2020 and 2021.
With double nationality (American and Israeli), Fischer took over the direction of the Israeli bank and moved to the country.
He had been chosen by Benjamin Netanyahu, then finance minister, to command the bank. Israel’s current Prime Minister Stanley Fischer’s death on his X profile: “Represented Israel with pride in the world ”.
