By projections of the Federation of Commerce (), the sector’s revenues should earn an increase in the order of 4.8% due to the expected sales for the. The comparison is with sales of sales made on the same commemorative date last year. The segments that should stand out in the preference of couples, according to the entity, will be those of clothing and accessories, pharmacies and perfumery, and those that sell electro -electronic items. Valentine’s Day, for revenue from retail trade, is among the three main commemorative dates, losing to Mother’s Day and Christmas.

In the federation’s analysis, performance could be better if it were not for inflation in the service sector, which has been running part of the income of families intended for consumption, and high interest rates, which affect medium and long term credit.

According to the entity, 69.2% of families in the São Paulo Metropolitan Region (RMSP) are indebted and 19.3% are defaulting. “This projection still finds its limit on how much people will be able to install purchases, as the most sought after segments for the occasion have relatively high average tickets,” says Fecomerciosp economists.

Segments

For the entity, the segment that will benefit the most for the high sales on Valentine’s Day will be clothing, accessories and shoes, with expansion of 9.3%, with gross revenues of almost R $ 10.3 billion in the month. “In addition to the increase in demand for clothing -quite common -there is also the weak base of statistical comparison last year, when the activity did not perform well,” analysts are expected.

Following are pharmacies and perfumery, with revenues of R $ 12.3 billion, an expansion of 8%. The segment has the advantage of being able to carry out marketing actions and promotional campaigns with more ability to influence the purchase decision of couples.

The activities of appliances, electronics and department stores will increase their revenues by 6.9%, while furniture and decoration stores will rise 4.9%. Supermarkets will finally feel some impact of the date thanks to products such as chocolates, wines and flowers.
