Petrobras has reduced gasoline prices passed on to distributors for the first time in about 20 months and gives the period without cuts – according to the company’s sources – its “abraside prices” policy and its purpose of containing fuel marketing volatility.
The idea of price policy, which does not strictly follow the internationally practiced figures for fuels (PPI) is: when prices fall globally, Petrobras does not follow immediately and creates a “mattress”; When prices go up there, the company “burns the mattress” and preserves the consumer.
According to CNN’s investigation, Petrobras has the period without cutting as a reflection of politics: about a month ago, for example, gasoline in Brazil became 9% more expensive than the international price, according to a daily survey by the Brazilian Association of Fuel Importers (Abicom), and there was no readjustment.
Petrobras has also been punctual in gasoline price elevations. The last rise took place in July 2024. They still enter the “abrasileate prices” account, mention sources, the advantages that the company have in terms of logistics and distribution by producing most of the fuel it consumes.
This Monday (2), Petrobras announced that it will reduce by 5.6% the price of gasoline passed on to distributors. Thus, the average sale price of fuel in refineries will be $ 2.85 per liter, a reduction of $ 0.17 per liter.
They pulled down the international price of gasoline retreats at the Brent and dollar oil quote. While the marketing value of the barrel has retreated about 17% since the beginning of the year, the American currency devalued around 8% compared to the real in the same period.
