Are you lazy to bother tomatoes? Do at least this for them

The rod tomato belongs nicely to the lath. To the rod and woe, how would he decide to grow, where he would. All the dresses ruthlessly away. “Although it is fixed in the gardening tradition, it is often forgotten why,” says Jana Bucharová in a podcast.

Playing not only tomato tomatoes here:

First, you can carefully get them out of the seed at home on the window or under the light. At the beginning of spring, you harden tomatoes and take the heat for the night so that they do not hurt the last frosts. Fertilize, water, tie. Then you leave. Just a few days, maybe a week. And when you come back, he’s there. A shoot that has grown out of the overlooked doll in the meantime. As if the magic is already strong, long, and perhaps even at the end even drives into flowering. You already have scissors in your hand. But isn’t that a shame? “Do not panic and let it be. It will not really hurt the tomato,” says Jana Bucharová, expert on the garden themes of the Recipe magazine.

Cage

Leaving tomato has its advantages and disadvantages. “Of course, the bushes do not concern, they have their own rules. But somewhere, but also stick tomatoes are grown without breaking side shoots,” explains the expert.

But it does not mean that the tomato itself is crawling, such as wild varieties. On the contrary, it is necessary to provide him with more support than just the stick itself. “Mostly a mesh or a cage -like building is around the plant,” adds Jana Bucharová. The tomato does not occur in any way, but it acts as a support for all the strong shoots that produce the flowers of the main stem.

Mold catcher

So why does such a science make such a break? The reason is simply cooler and more climate than in southern Europe or Central America, where the tomato comes from. While the tomato can benefit well as a large thick plant, in our country growers have come very quickly that they are much more at risk of attacking molds and also risk that not all fruits ripen in hidden thickets as they would like. And so they began to get rid of the side shoots.

One or two does not mind

Fortunately, there is also a golden middle way, thanks to which you will not blame you just a few days outside the garden. “Do not be afraid to leave one or two stronger shoots to the plant,” the expert advises. “You must, like the main stem, somehow support them appropriately.” As a result, the tomato will be sufficiently airy to better withstand mold. But at the same time, it will be produced on the side shoots and maybe you will see more crops than ever.
