Congress suspends work to host BRICS Parliamentary Forum

The international event includes the participation of about 150 representatives from 15 countries. Conference debates involve topics related to business partnerships, development, health, climate and sustainability, use of responsible artificial intelligence and world security. Consensus discussions and guidelines will be consolidated in an interparlation cooperation document.

On Tuesday, the forum program includes debates on the participation of parliamentary women. Members of the Women’s Bench in Congress must attend.

Discussion sessions are also foreseen with the presidents of the Foreign Affairs committees of parliaments of the groups that make up the group. In the Senate, the board is chaired by Senator Nelsinho Trad (PSD-MS), and in the House, by Deputy Filipe Barros (PL-PR).

Delegations with confirmed participation include South Africa, China, Ethiopia, the United Arab Emirates, India, Indonesia, Iran, Egypt and Russia. BRICS partner countries should also send representatives, including Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Nigeria and Kazakhstan.

On Wednesday (4), the thematic debates continue and the official opening of the event should be held at 10:30 am. The closing, with the adoption of the final document, will be on Thursday (5), at 17h.

BRICS is currently formed by 11 countries: Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa – which are founding members – as well as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, Indonesia and Iran.
