The flowers of the chives usually last only a few days before cutting them so that the plant does not unnecessarily lose its taste. But few people suspect that these purple heads have not only fine onion aroma, but also great culinary potential. If you put them in vinegar, you will get a beautifully colored flavored foundation for salad watering, marinades or homemade flavorings within a few days.
The chives are undemanding, grateful and have a fixed place in the Czech gardens. But when in the spring you bloom into tenderly purple round flowers, most of us cut them off without hesitation and throw them straight away. But that’s a shame! The chives flowers are not only edible, but also surprisingly aromatic – and when you put them into vinegar, they turn into a beautifully colored, gently onion elixir, which will raise every salad, watering or even home dressing.

Chive vinegar gets you
The production of chive vinegar is so simple that you can prepare it in a few minutes. It is enough to collect fully developed flowers in the garden (ideally in the morning, when they are fresh and full of juices), rinse them, gently dry and place in a glass. Pour them with high -quality white or apple vinegar and leave to infuse in a cool place, preferably two weeks. Vinegar gets a beautiful pinkish color and a slightly pungent aroma, which in the kitchen perfectly replaces classic onions and lemon juice.
“In addition to the C -chives, we can also find vitamin B, which is good for quality bone structure and for elasticity and shiny hair. From the amount of vitamins, we mention mainly calcium and phosphorus,” says nutritional advisor Jana Kolrusová.
You can use this vinegar throughout the summer
You can use finished chive vinegar in salads, marinades or drip fresh vegetables. Well tastes the IS with a drop of honey in a simple watering or in combination with Dijon mustard. And if you pour it into a nice bottle and get a label, you also have a beautiful edible gift that will delight every lover of home kitchen.
So the next time you chop the chives, give the flowers a second chance – will revive your kitchen not only in color but also taste.
