Eisenhüttestadt, a city in eastern Germany near the Poland border, is offering two weeks of free stay for people interested in moving there.

The initiative, launched by the local City Hall, aims to attract new residents and boost the population, which has been decreasing since German reunification in 1990.

The “Make Plans Now” program will select participants to live in furnished apartments in the city center between September 6 and 20, with open registrations until the beginning of July.

The project is directed to various profiles, including qualified, autonomous workers, people who want to return to the city and even those who make daily journeys to other locations.

During the stay period, participants will have the opportunity to know the local life, participate in guided tours, visit factories and integrate with the community.

In addition, local companies will offer internships, Job Shadowing opportunities and job interviews to encourage definitive permanence.

Founded in 1950 as the first planned city of the former East Germany, Eisenhüttestadt was built around a large steelmaker, which is still the largest in East German, employing about 2,500 people.

The city, which has already had more than 50 thousand inhabitants, today has approximately 24 thousand residents.

The characteristic architecture of the socialist period, with historical buildings and an open urban planning, has attracted visitors and new residents interested in its cultural heritage.

With this initiative, Eisenhüttestadt seeks not only to increase its population, but also revitalize the local economy and preserve its historical legacy.
