The interrogation phase of core 1 of the coup plot will first put the eight defendants for the first time-including former President Jair Bolsonaro-facing Minister Alexandre de Moraes, rapporteur in the Supreme Court (STF) of the criminal action that investigates the attempted coup after the 2022 elections.
The interrogations were marked by Moraes for next Monday, the 9th, and begin with the speech of Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid because he is a collaborator of the court. This is because, in criminal action, defenses must have the opportunity to defend themselves from all accusations.
Besides him, all other defendants and his lawyers will be at the same time in the courtroom of the first class of the court, where the judgments of the coup plot have been taking place. There has been no definition of the possibility of interrogations being assisted in person by an audience.

After Mauro Cid, the defendants will be heard in alphabetical order. Alexandre Ramagem, Almir Garnier, Anderson Torres, Augusto Heleno, Jair Bolsonaro, Paulo Sérgio Nogueira and Walter Braga Netto. All of them must attend in person to the Supreme Court, with the exception of Braga Netto, who has been in prison since December. His interrogation will be made by video conferencing, but simultaneously with the others.
Bolsonaro and Moraes were already in the same room during the complaint trial on March 25. But by the arrangement of the seats in the room and the location of the ministers in the plenary, the two did not face. In interrogation the direct contact between them will be mandatory, since Moraes will lead the questions to the defendants.
In case the testimonies are not completed at the hearing on Monday, more dates were reserved by Moraes: the minister separated between the 9th and 13th for the defendants to be heard. They have the right to remain silent, as no accused is obliged to produce proof against himself.

The announcement of the dates was made by Moraes at the end of the hearings with the witnesses in the action. In the last two weeks, 52 people have been heard, nominated by the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) and the defenses.
Finished the interrogations, Minister Alexandre de Moraes will again open a deadline for accusation and defenses to position themselves in the process, for the so -called final allegations. Again, due to the denunciation signed by Mauro Cid, the order of presentation must favor the defenses: with this, the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) will present its final arguments, followed by the former Assistant of Orders and, finally, by all defendants’ defenses.
This is the last phase of the case before the trial, which will be carried out with the reading of the report by Minister Alexandre de Moraes, besides his vote and the other four members of the class, Ministers Flávio Dino, Luiz Fux, Cristiano Zanin and Cármen Lúcia, for the conviction or acquittal of the defendants.
