Isabela Tibcherani’s father challenged the prosecution to present filming that showed him by throwing the victims; Young Pan had access to the trial recordings
The trial, sentenced to nearly 100 years in prison, brought out new details about the crime that shook Brazil. During his statement, Cupertino turned the session into a monologue of more than two hours, interrupting lawyers and prosecutors. He denied shooting and killed his family, claiming that he had the size and record of his weapons, but that on the day of the facts he was not armed. Cupertino challenged the prosecution to present filming that showed him armed or throwing the victims, claiming that an armed man outside the house would have been responsible for the homicides. The prosecution, however, considers this fantasy version.
Isabela Tibcherani, daughter of Cupertino, also testified during the trial. She reported that on the day of the crime, she met her boyfriend Rafael and his parents, Miriam and João. The group decided to go to Isabela’s house to talk to Cupertino. According to Isabela, when they arrived, Cupertino pulled her into the house, closing the door aggressively and preventing any dialogue. She heard Cupertino say “talk nothing” before hearing the shots. As he left, he came across the bodies of Miriam, Rafael and João Miguel, all shot dead.
During the trial, Cupertino spared no criticism of the police, the prosecution and even his own lawyers, being warned by the magistrate for his conduct. He was told to remain sitting and treating all with urbanity. Despite the warnings, Cupertino continued to speak nonstop for two hours, stating that he sleeps quietly, despite the accusations. Actor Rafael Miguel and his parents were killed with 12 shots in total. After the crime, Cupertino fled, but was captured and arrested by police in 2022.
