Radio Madrid turns 100, and the best is yet to come. Of this, those that make it possible for every day the listeners receive the signal of the station belonging to the SER chain. A few days after fulfilling its anniversary, which will be on June 17, Radio Madrid celebrated on Monday with a gala at the Lope de Vega Theater led by the humorist and announcer Juan Carlos Ortega. With the name “All ahead”, this show has honored throughout Spain the centenary of the radio.
For the opening of the gala, Javier García Dederide, director of Radio Madrid, invited the stage. The public did not feel the presence of the politician, and received it with boos and phrases of disapproval. The mayor showed thick skin and highlighted the work of Radio Madrid with his listeners. “Democracy is taken care of and preserved from respect to the media and, therefore, to a sacred right and is enshrined in the Constitution,” said Almeida, and the public responded with disapproval.

Other politicians were at the gala but went unnoticed among the public’s ranks. Among them, the Minister of Presidency of the Community of Madrid, Miguel Ángel García Martín; The Minister of Health, Mónica García, the Minister of Digital Transformation, Óscar López and the Government Delegate in the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín.
How could it be otherwise, the show began by breastfeeding because this was the main means that Spain suffered. It was remembered how people went down to the garage to capture the signal from the car and gathered around a radio, in unusual scenes today.
100 years seem few but it is difficult to remember how much it has happened since then. Through the screen on stage, the voices that starred great moments in history were recovered: from the blackout, the Covid-19 pandemic, the 11M attacks, mythical programs such as Theater of the Air Being -, expressing feel “vividly pleased.”
The key to the show was humor. Comedian Juan Carlos Ortega opened with a deserved tribute: he asked that the radio workers Madrid exchange papers for one day and applaud the listeners present, those who exhausted in a few days the tickets to listen to the voices that accompany them every day. “In local stations, listeners are a kind of correspondents,” Ortega suggested to the guests on stage, journalists Roberto Torija and Marta González Novo. On the stage, two other historical broadcasters as Ángeles outside and Carmelo Encinas also uploaded to remember how the radio has changed that Spanish society.
The station did not ignore that only a few days ago was news when the queen during a visit to the slope of Moyano. “A medium that exhibits a strength and a shame of enviable youth,” said Doña Letizia, and for greater detail, confessed as a listener more than every morning he wakes up not with alarms, but with the loudness of the radio.
De Radio Madrid have also remembered those who are no longer, such as the 25 -hour director Carlos Llamas, who died in 2007, or the journalist Joaquín Luqui, who died two years earlier. Luqui was a presenter of one of the distinguished products of Radio Madrid, the 40 main ones, which was born in this local station and then jumped to national and international fame such as Los40.
At the exit of the gala several listeners confirmed the illusion that caused them to attend the event and surround themselves with the people whose voices accompany them daily. Some like Antonia, a radio listener Madrid, especially on weekends, missed the presence of the journalist Iñaki Gabilondo, although that is why they stopped getting excited about those who were. Julian and Concha’s marriage confessed that this was not the first time they were in the same space as the journalists and drivers they listen to daily. “I have been a radio Madrid partner all my life and I have met them because I went to the live programs,” adds Julián, who is in his 70 years and ensures that there are at least 70 who has been faithful follower of the station.
