Rematch is the 'modern FIFA Street' we always ordered; See Beta Analysis

Rematch is a new third -person football game that drew attention for being produced by Sloclap, the same Sifu, famous roguelite From Kung-Fu released in 2022. The game dispenses with the traditional rules of the sport and totally bets on an arcade experience, with matches between teams of up to five players-each controlling their athlete. Thus, you need to coordinate plays with your teammates, as there are no fixed functions for each player, and performing stylish plays to make their way through the field and score.

This past week, the title received a beta test that caught the attention of another 2.5 million players and from which the Techtudo He also had the opportunity to participate. Although much of its content was still raw, Rematch won by its most uncompromising premise, ideal for playing among friends, and mechanics that are very satisfactory to perform, even if they lack fine adjustments. Remember that the game arrives on June 19 for PlayStation 5 (PS5), Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PC (Steam), costing from R $ 89, and is on Xbox Game Pass. Learn more below, in the initial impressions of Rematch.

  • FOOTBALL ART
  • Technical gameplay scares, but is rewarding
  • A Rocket League… with people?
  • Better among friends
  • Excited?

Before entering the gameplay detail, Rematch leaves a great impression already by his artistic direction. The matches unfold in species of technological domes, located within crowded stages. With the progress of the gambling, everything around the countryside becomes the breathtaking landscapes – from dense waterfall forests, deserts and even space stations.

At the moment some team points out, there are very spathy effects and that in turn also transform the landscape, giving a very charming and authentic visual identity to the game. It’s all very colorful and satisfactory to glimpse. Visual effects, such as electrocuted boots at the time a player makes attacks, are also emphasized by the third person perspective. By itself, this feature already brings a big fresh air compared to other football titles.

There is also a percussive song that dynamically accompanies the events of the match. This is an interesting detail because, depending on the temperature of the game and how fierce it is, the player is completely immersed. For example, if your team intercepts the ball in the large area and engaging a counterattack, the percussion follows the moment of adrenaline and makes everything even more exciting.

It is worth mentioning that the game has a customization system that, although simple, gives enough room for each user’s individual expression. It also brings interesting representative options, including body types, prostheses and even vitiligo. Because it is a beta, there were few stages and cosmetics available, but the tests managed to light interest and curiosity for what it may be on the way to the full version.

Technical gameplay scares, but it’s rewarding

Rematch is a full plate for players who like to perform stylish feints and dribbles. Despite its more arcade face, Sloclap’s title does not underestimate the individual skill of each player, giving full control over the ball and its tricks. The simple task of performing passes or advances the ball can take time to be dominated, as everything requires a combination of aim, such as other third -person titles, with a precision in the left analog.

The amount of buttons can also scare a little, and the game’s difficulty difficulty is somewhat steep as a result. For example, while the player has possession, he is vulnerable to defenders. Using a dedicated button to advance it, you can run faster and the character is less susceptible to interruptions. The problem: The risk of forgetting the ball backwards is risky because this technique makes “automatic possession” go momentarily, requiring a lot of coordination.

In direct clashes, you can hold a dedicated button to enter a “dribble posture”, which also allows a more horizontal movement for the control of the ball. Combining directions with the aforementioned button to advance the ball, you can perform dribbles to pierce the opposing defense. This is where you can get a sense of the amount of buttons that must be pressed simultaneously to perform the game’s actions.

These more technical commands are not necessarily a problem as it is a very satisfactory and rewarding system as we begin to understand. But it is a fact that the game fails to communicate players about their operation and may end up amazing the more casual audience, at least at this first moment.

Unfortunately, the game tutorial provides a bad service for learning mechanics. Lessons are poorly structured and allow the user to advance without even understanding what was performed. I only really started learning the game commands based on exhibition, in matches against other players. The remake of controls also gave a lot of headache, as the user interface was poorly responsive.

A Rocket League… with people?

It may sound funny, but describing rematch as a “Rocket League with people” makes a lot of sense. The main reason lies in the fact that the game completely dispenses with the rules of sports, such as absences, impediments, side throws, corner kicks, etc. Similarly, it also brings memories of the classic FIFA Street, PlayStation 2 (PS2), as it is possible to use the field walls to run feints, tabulated passes and other unusual plays.

It is as if the countryside also has a fundamental element of moves: intersections and even kicks to the goal can take advantage of the walls to fool the other players, especially the goalkeepers. Therefore, the way of thinking and behaving in a rematch match is totally differentiated from a more traditional football game.

Speaking of goalkeepers, any player can take this function freely during matches. The game automatically assigns gloves to the player in the large area – as long as it is one at a time. Therefore, it is possible to interspersing with your teammates and even take a risky moves, defending a goal kick and immediately dropping your post, to take advantage of a counterattack.

If you have been interested in Rematch, it is worth a warning: it is essential to play with friends to make the experience more positive. If you venture into matchmaking With random people, not until someone abandon or sabotage the match, with goals against. It also weighs the fact that the game did not filter through regions very well, resulting in lag. Fortunately, I was able to close a complete team with friends and the experience was a lot of fun.

You can venture into 3V3, 4V4 or 5V5 matches, which are designed to train mechanics, positioning and game vision, respectively. Each mode brings a specific field size to match the number of players, and all were equally fun. If your group of friends is even bigger, it is also possible to organize matches in private rooms quite easily.

The game will also feature a season pass system, allowing you to unlock new cosmetic items based on progression. It is not yet clear how everything should work, but it is clear that Sloclap has a plan to engage the community and keep the game active in the long run. Part of this also involves crossplay support, dispensing with barriers between platforms and unifying your players base.

Rematch was the biggest fun I had with soccer games since the late FIFA Street, and could easily supply the lack of players for a more relaxed and mechanically engaging football. As much as this premise is unlike anything expected from the studio behind Sifu, it is undoubtedly a very pleasant surprise that should quickly win its place among the most fun multiplayer games today.

The game still needs to go through some adjustments, especially in the pass system, interfaces and the way it communicates its mechanics via tutorial, but impressions are very positive. Since the user understands that “everything is a kick” and when it is necessary to give up automatic possession of the ball to perform plays, learning becomes part of the fun. It is complex, yes, but rewarding in the same proportion.

The secret is to embark on lightly, without taking the outcome of the matches very seriously. And of course, in playing with friends so everyone can share knowledge together. I’m not a fan of soccer, but I’m a complete enthusiast of fighting and rhythm games. I was able to see various elements of these genres in Rematch, especially in resource management, and was totally hooked by the proposal. Therefore, there is the recommendation to keep an eye on this launch even if you do not follow the sport.
