Brasília confirms a case of avian flu in a zoo

Five outbreaks of avian flu were detected in the country in recent weeks, according to the Ministry of Agriculture

The government of confirmed on Tuesday (3) a case of at the zoo of the capital, closed last week after the death of two wild birds in a moment of outbreak of the disease. Brazil, the world’s largest exporter of chicken meat, suspended product shipments to 24 countries due to a surge of avian flu that began in mid -May. The zoo of the capital suspended the presence of the public on May 28, after a pigeon and duck were found dead in its facilities and considered “suspected cases” of the disease.

The exhibitions confirmed that “a case of high pathogenicity (IAAP) Avianza was detected” at the Brasilia Zoo, the Federal District Secretariat of Agriculture said. “With the confirmation of the focus, according to dealings with the coordination of the National Program for Poultry Health of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, the zoo will be held until June 12, if there is no new cases there,” added the secretary. Five outbreaks of avian flu were detected in the country in recent weeks, according to the Ministry of Agriculture. The first case was registered on May 16 on a farm in the state of Rio Grande do Sul.
