Before hiking it is necessary to familiarize yourself in advance with the terrain and conditions. It is advisable to adapt both equipment and planning to a specific environment. The shoulder should contain a first aid kit, suitable sun protection, clean water, food, but also a charged mobile phone with an external charger. This was pointed out by the Office of Public Health (ÚVZ) of the Slovak Republic on its website.

“In the first aid medicine chest, add the medicines you normally take. Do not forget the tanning cream with high SPF, especially in mountain areas. You will also find an effective repellent, especially against ticks or mosquitoes,“He pointed out the ÚVZ. The Office stresses that it is important to verify the weather forecast before hiking and check the possible meteorological warnings or the alerts of the Mountain Rescue Service.

According to ÚVZ, it is ideal to go on a hike in the group, not alone. “If you go for hiking with your child, equipment, terrain, intensity and length, first of all adapt to the child with respect to his / her age,” he said. Tourists should dress appropriately, according to experts, quality waterproof and non -slip hiking shoes and windproof and waterproof top layer are important.

According to ÚVZ, the tourist equipment must not lack clean water, as it is not advisable to rely on mountain springs or wells on hiking trails. “Remember that even water that is clear, without turbidity, odor and has a good taste, it does not have to be safe,” reminded. According to experts, water from an unknown source can be spread mainly by intestinal infections.

The amount of food must be adapted to the length of the hike. It is ideal to pack up durable foods that do not require refrigeration storage and do not spoil quickly. Due to the exerted physical exertion, food should have enough protein and complex carbohydrates – For example, wholemeal bread, tuna in its own juice, dried meat.

Forest fruit recommends ÚVZ to consume only after thorough washing with drinking water. “Even for this purpose, do not use water that is not marked as drinking. Unsyded forest fruits may have on their surface, for example, eggs of fox tapeworms that can cause unpleasant disease – echinococcosis,” the hygienists said.

They added that the incubation time may take several years. Clinically, the disease is manifested mainly by the formation of cysts, most often in the liver. Cysts rarely develop in another organ including lungs, kidneys, spleen, nerve tissue. In the early stages of infection, they are often the only manifestations of abdominal pain and biliary tract obstruction.
