With the arrival of summer, many Portuguese begin to trace their vacation plans. And if the destination chosen is out of doors, it is important to consider an essential aspect: safety. It was precisely for this purpose that the traveling platform, a travel expert, published its latest worldwide index about the safest countries to travel in 2025. The good news? Portugal is among the 15 best in the world.
Iceland at the top, Portugal also well placed
This international ranking is built based on 35 objective indicators, grouped into five major areas: environmental risks, social violence, political stability, armed conflicts and quality of health infrastructure. The data come from official sources such as the World Bank and UN agencies, which ensures reliability to the analysis.
Iceland appears at the top of the list, with a score of only 18.23 points (the lower, the safer the country). Singapore follows, with 19.99 points, and Denmark, with 20.05. These three countries occupy the global podium in 2025, says PUBLITURIS.
Portugal, in turn, raises 25 points, which places it in 12th position between European countries and 15th place worldwide to travel. This performance reinforces the security image that the country has been building in recent decades and is often cited in international lists of quiet destinations.
Europe continues to dominate the Summary Places
Of the 15 safest countries in the world, 12 are located in Europe. In addition to the aforementioned Denmark, there are Austria (20,3), Switzerland (20,5) and the Czech Republic (21,2), all of them ahead of Portugal in the European table.
Even outside the European continent, there are positive surprises when it comes to destinations to travel. Butão (with 22.98 points) and Qatar (23.33 points) also include among the safest destinations in the world, challenging the traditional European hegemony in this type of rankings.
Latin America divides-be between ends
Latin America has a very unequal scenario. If countries like Paraguay, Uruguay or Bolivia have reasonable safety rates, others continue to generate concern. Mexico, Colombia and Venezuela appear in the last places in the world classification, with rates of more than 78 points. Internal violence, political instability and high homicide rates contribute to this result.
The Philippines lead the list of the most dangerous countries to travel, with a worrying rate of 82.32 points, followed by Colombia (79.21) and Mexico (78.42). Syria, Yemen and Russia also appear in the last positions due to armed conflicts and chronic instability.
We recommend:
Asia with obvious contrasts
Asia is the continent that most exposes inequalities in security. On the one hand, Singapore stands out as the second safest country in the world. On the other, the Philippines end the ranking. This contrast highlights deep differences between countries in the region, even within similar geographical and cultural contexts.
India and Indonesia are also poorly classified, although with less serious results than the worst placed, the same source suggests.
France with surprising result
One of the negative surprises of this year’s edition was the result of France. With a score of 36 points, it comes only in the 80th world position and 34th place among European countries. According to Hellosafe, this classification is explained above all by the persistent terrorist threat in the country, as well as some recurring social tensions.
In contrast, countries such as the Netherlands (26.22 points) and Belgium (28.31 points) continue to appear among the safe destinations, even with scores higher than that of Portugal.
Security continues to ‘regret’ in the choice of destination
Hellosafe recalls that the purpose of this index is to help travelers make more informed decisions about their destinations, based on reliable data and not just perceptions. By analyzing factors such as natural disasters, sanitary infrastructure, internal conflicts and crime rates, the index offers a global and balanced view of safety in the world.
With Portugal in the top 15 world, the country not only reinforces its position as an election destination for foreign tourists, but also offers the Portuguese an additional guarantee if they choose to have a vacation within borders.
A useful guide for planning with more confidence
With the most sought after destinations to travel often rapid changes in safety conditions, this type of rankings. Like that of Hellosafe, quoted by, can serve as a valuable reference. Whether to choose where to spend a vacation, take a business trip, or even decide a temporary change, knowing the safest countries in the world is always a good starting point.
Portugal, while staying among the best, shows that it is still synonymous with tranquility, even when compared to great European or Asian powers. And this, for many travelers, can make all the difference.
