The Minister of Agriculture, said on Wednesday (4), that chicken meat prices had a 7% reduction after the confirmation of avian flu in a commercial farm in Rio Grande do Sul. However, according to him, the movement is not a matter of concern for the productive sector. “The reduction in chicken prices is not alarming, it is due to redirect to the domestic market,” explained Favaro. With temporary embargoes on exports, part of production initially intended for the foreign market was absorbed internally, which influenced the drop in prices. The statement is in line with the evaluation of technicians from the agricultural and economic areas of the federal government, which provide for a punctual fall in chicken and egg prices in Brazil due to the suspension of poultry exports to 38 destinations after detecting the disease focus.

The surplus that would be exported is being absorbed in the domestic market, which temporarily increases supply and presses prices. The impact, however, tends to be limited. According to technicians, the tendency is for the retreat to extend for a maximum of three months – time required for farms to adjust chin accommodation to the new demand.
