Virus was detected in a dead -found marre at the Brasilia Zoo on May 28; Location will remain closed until June 12
The Government of the Federal District confirmed on the night of this 3rd (3.jun.2025) a case of avian flu at the Brasilia Zoo. The virus was detected in a milestone found dead on site on May 28.
The exams of a pigeon, which was also found dead in the zoo on the same day, are still being analyzed. It is the 1st case of avian flu confirmed in the Federal District.
The zoo will remain banned until June 12, if no new cases are recorded at the site. Birds will also continue to be monitored.
Brazil confirmed on 16 May its 1st case of avian flu in a commercial farm in Rio Grande do Sul. Others were later confirmed in ornamental birds of Minas Gerais.
Avian flu is not dangerous to human health for the consumption of meat or eggs. The virus, however, can be fatal to birds and affect agricultural production.
