Federal Deputy Carla Zambelli (PL-SP), sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Federal Supreme Court (STF), was the subject of questions in the Italian Parliament after announcing that he will remain in Europe, where he has citizenship.
Opposition deputy Angelo Bonelli, a member of the Green Alliance and Left Coalition, asked the Italian government information about a possible cooperation with Brazil and Interpol to enable Zambelli’s extradition.
“We expect a quick response from the government. Italy risks becoming a paradise for scammers,” Bonelli said in a statement. He added that Zambelli is a “Bolsonaro party exponent” and has been convicted of an STF’s unanimous decision.

On the same day, Minister Alexandre de Moraes decreed AE Zambelli and determined precautionary measures, including blocking his assets, salary, credit card, pix and cabinet funds. In addition, he ordered the parliamentarian’s social networks to be taken down within two hours and included his name on Interpol’s red diffusion list used for international arrests with extradition request.
Travel to Europe and License of the Mandate
Zambelli announced on Tuesday that he has been abroad since last week and intends to license from his term. In a video published on a YouTube channel, the deputy said she initially traveled to perform medical treatments and will participate in political activities in France and Italy.
“I wanted to announce that I have been out of Brazil for a few days. I came, at first, seeking medical treatment that I was doing here and now I will ask me to move away from office,” said Zambelli.

Zambelli also mentioned health problems, such as joint hypermobility syndrome, cardiac dysfunction and depression – conditions that, according to his defense, will be used as an argument to question the execution of the closed sentence.
Zambelli went to hacker Walter Delgatti Neto for invading the National Council of Justice (CNJ) system and inserting false documents, including a fraudulent arrest warrant against Minister Alexandre de Moraes himself. The crime occurred on January 4, 2023, a few days before the scammer acts of 8 January – a connection that was reinforced by the rapporteur in the Supreme Court (STF).
The penalty imposed on Zambelli was 10 years in prison, as well as a fine and compensation in the amount of $ 2 million. As the decision has not yet become final, the deputy may maintain the mandate, but is already ineligible for eight years.

This week, Zambelli’s defense attorney, Daniel Bialski, announced that he would leave the case for “ground forum.” Prior to that, he had criticized the conduct of the judgment in a virtual plenary and stated that there is no material evidence that binds Zambelli to hacker actions.
