Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof confirmed on Wednesday that new parliamentary elections will be held in the country. At the same time, King Viliam Alexander accepted the resignation of the Prime Minister and commissioned him to stay in the office of the temporary government. TASR reports this based on DPA and Reuters reports.

“After all, life in the Netherlands and abroad continues and it is necessary to make decisions that cannot be postponed,” said Parliament’s Prime Minister in Haag. According to Schoof, early elections in the country have great support and the government will report on their actions soon, probably on Thursday, writes DPA. The elections are expected to be held at the earliest in October or November.

Early elections

The fall of the government occurred on Tuesday after the right -wing politician Geert Wilders announced that he was withdrawing his ministers from the Cabinet for a dispute concerning the limitation of migration. Wilders earned strong criticism in Parliament from his coalition partners, but also from the opposition. “In my opinion, the fall of this government was unnecessary and irresponsible,” said Schoof, a non -party Prime Minister. “We are struggling with large national and international challenges, and more than ever, determination is needed,” he added.

Wilders, in turn, accused his former coalition partners of blocking migration policy. “We want to stop the asylum, we want intensive border controls. We want everyone, indeed every asylum seeker to be at the border (refused) and returned,” he said. “It must happen immediately,” Wilders pointed out, adding that his party no longer wants to be responsible for the “demise of the Netherlands”, recalls DPA.
