The husband of federal deputy Carla Zambelli (PL-SP), the reserve colonel Aguinaldo Oliveira, also from the PL, requested a license two weeks before his wife leaves the country to Europe. Sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Zambelli and said he intends to set residence in Italy, a country of which he also has citizenship. Oliveira asked for temporary removal from the position of Caucaia Public Security Secretary (CE), a city in the Metropolitan Region of Fortaleza. According to publication in the Official Gazette of the Municipality, the license began on May 21 with the end scheduled for May 30. The alleged reason was the need to accompany a sick relative – unidentified.
The deputy even mentioned in an interview that she left “a few days ago” abroad with the justification for medical treatment for hers. Its departure from the country occurred amid the climbing of court pressures that include a request from the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) by his own.
Aguinaldo Oliveira, who disputed Caucaia City Hall in 2024 and finished last with 12.26% of the votes, commanded the National Public Security Force during the government of former President Jair Bolsonaro. He held the position for three years, subordinate to the Ministry of Justice.
The temporary departure from the position occurs amid the worsening judicial situation of the wife. Risk of escape and Italian citizenship
For the PGR, the international displacement of the deputy raises the suspicion that she would be trying to escape the consequences of her conviction. The agency mentioned the episode as a justification for the request for pre -trial detention. Behind the scenes of the Supreme Court, ministers heard by the press classified the country’s departure as an attempted escape.
Zambelli, in turn, claimed to have Italian citizenship, which, according to her, would prevent eventual extradition. Although Brazil and Italy keep legal cooperation agreements, Italian legislation does not allow the extradition of its own citizens.
