The governors of states with strong performance in agribusiness attended the first day of Global Agribusiness Festival (Gafff), on Thursday (5). In a panel mediated by Rafael Furlanetti, institutional managing partner of XP Investimentos, Tarcísio de Freitas (SP), Ronaldo Caiado (GO), Antonio Denarium (RR) and Eduardo Riedel (MS) discussed topics such as infrastructure, legal certainty, technology and interest rates.

On the day of sustainability, the governor of São Paulo argued that it is possible to balance the use of the state’s natural potential with the fulfillment of environmental standards, without locking economic development. For him, the infrastructure is the first step, through projects that align growth and environmental responsibility.

“We will develop our infrastructure conciliating with sustainability. As the environment becomes more sensitive, more studies are needed. But for low impact enterprises, we have sought to simplify licensing processes, precisely to unlock these investments,” said Tarcisio.

In the same line, the governor of Mato Grosso do Sul highlighted the state’s strategic role in the agricultural export route, facilitating the flow of production towards the Pacific Ocean. Still, Eduardo Riedel pointed to obstacles. “Transport still faces difficulties because of the bureaucracy in licensing. We need to make these operations viable and monetize. The environment has market value – and it is worth a lot of money,” he said.

Public Safety in Focus

The governor of Goiás, Ronaldo Caiado (União Brasil), said that the PEC of Public Security seeks to take from the governors the prerogative of the subject. Caiado made choir to other governors of states of agribusiness and opposition in criticism of the federal government in security.

“This PEC of Public Security, where the government wants to withdraw from us, governors, the prerogative of security and to move to the Ministry of Justice,” Caiado said in a panel at Gafff.

Pre-presidential candidate, Caiado exercised a campaign tone at the event. The governor took advantage of the stage to summon the support of rural sector leaders to 2026. “This country will have a rural policy that will be proud of all,” he said.

Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) stated that the fight against organized crime into agribusiness in Sao Paulo is a “question of posture”. “It is necessary to change the legislation, make it harder, and effort of the federal government as well,” he said.

According to him, the way for organized crime entering agribusiness sectors in São Paulo would be related to the production chain of the fuel sector. Tarcisio denies a possible candidacy for the presidency in 2026, but has been treated as an alternative in Brasilia.
