Senator Mara Gabrilli (-SP) told the panel that she should run for a chair at the Legislative Assembly in 2026 as a strategy to help, president of the acronym, to be made possible as a candidate for governor.
The decision to change the Senate for the São Paulo legislature was taken in accordance with Kassab.
“My candidacy for Alesp is part of a much larger political project articulated by the PSD. It is to expand the party’s strength in and help. If Tarcisio [de Freitas] run for presidency, “says Mara.
“If Tarcisio does not go out to president, we will work for Kassab to be the vice. The PSD has won 207 city halls, and I was always a municipalist senator, meeting health, education, public safety for women,” he continued.
Elected for the Senate with 6.5 million votes in 2018, Mara believes he could be a vote pulling at Alesp, where the PSD gathers only four state deputies today.
“We have a quantitative and qualitative picture of mayors, we now need to expand the number of state deputies to give this backing,” says Mara.
“I was a municipal secretary, councilwoman, deputy and always wanted to legislate for Brazil. In Congress I contributed to structure various topics. I am more experienced and, to Sao Paulo, it will be cool to have a woman candidate, quadriplegic and who went through all these places with the sledgehammer in hand.”
This will be the first time Mara will compete for Alesp. In her decision, she also pondered two situations: the fierce Senate race in 2026, with strong scholarship candidates, and the routine of travel to Brasilia.
“The scenario is more aggressive and extremist proponents, with a chance of an even heavier campaign. This polarization does not put food on the plate of those who need it, everything is in the background,” says the senator.
“I need to win a prize, I’m 16 years taking plane almost every week. I have to arrive early and I’m the last to leave the flight, the chair always breaks and is crooked in Brasilia. I can’t believe I could do it all.”
