Washington-Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) can definitely book a success when he visited Washington: A scandal at his meeting with US President Donald Trump in the Oval Office has failed-although differences have become particularly apparent when dealing with Russia. Trump does without the 40-minute performance of the guest from Germany, as he did in other cases. Instead, he congratulates Merz on victory in the “great choice”. He praises him for his English (the Chancellor did without an interpreter) – and he even jokes with him.
