Rural producers from the communities of Belo Jardim and Catuaba, in Rio Branco, benefited on Wednesday (4) with the distribution of 660 basic baskets. The action is part of a joint effort of the Rio Branco City Hall, through the Municipal Civil Defense and the Municipal Secretariat of Agriculture, in partnership with the Federal Government, through the Ministry of Social Development, and with the support of the National Supply Company (Conab).

Each delivered basket contains essential items, such as 10 pounds of rice, noodles, cornflakes, flour and oil, among other products, which aim to ensure the food safety of families impacted by extreme climate events such as droughts and floods. To receive the benefit, it is necessary that the rural producer is properly registered, resides in the countryside and has been affected by these adversities in recent months.
In all, the municipality received 4,357 basic baskets, totaling 96 tons of food for families who suffered from natural disasters. Of this total, approximately 3,600 baskets – the equivalent of 80 tons – have already been distributed, demonstrating the advance of emergency action.

During the delivery, Mayor Tião Bocalom stressed the importance of initiative as a palliative measure, although it recognizes that this is not a definitive solution. “I greatly thank the Federal Government, Conab and the commitment of the Civil Defense and the Secretariat of Agriculture. I know that control is not easy, but it is an important help for those who suffered so much from drought last year and, more recently, the floods this year,” he said.
The municipal civil defense coordinator, Colonel Claudio Falcão, also reinforced the management’s commitment to continue to support vulnerable families. “It is a great pleasure to be able to help the rural community that has faced the impacts of drought and flood. Food insecurity is a serious social problem, and Rio Branco City Hall will not let such a situation go unnoticed,” he said.
